Today we had a group of students from Hadlow College come and plant a hedge for us. Our windbreak is constantly, well, getting broken (maybe that’s how it gets its name?!)… so we’ve added a second line of protection. Our new hedge includes: birch, Spindleberry (Euonymus europaeus), Guelder rose and dogwood, so it’s not only a good “mixed wildlife hedge”, but it will also come in handy for pretty berries and twigs. Now we just have to keep our fingers crossed for a nice mixture of rain and warmth, unlike last year’s weeks of drought. When it comes to rabbits, we can’t afford to simply keep our fingers crossed, so Bek and Gary put in a new rabbit fence as soon as the trees were planted. Try and get past that, critters!
