The positive effects of buying our locally grown flowers…

Not only are you supporting a local business and the people behind it but there are lots more benefits besides — all of which should make you even more happy with your purchase.

Blooming Green is a flower farming and floristry business. The flowers we sell between April and November are grown here at Loddington Farm and at West Pikefish Farm near Yalding. From December to March we source flowers from specialist British growers to add to our home-grown foliage and flower selection. Supporting other British flower growers helps to make our positive impact on the environment and the economy, both local and national, even greater. Some of the fabulous growers we work with include:

Whether you are buying directly from us — which is the perfect scenario as the flower are grown, without chemicals, just a couple of fields away from the farm shop — or simply ‘buying British’, these are some of the benefits:

  • Environmental Sustainability: Locally grown flowers reduce the need for long-distance transportation, which lowers carbon emissions and helps combat climate change.
  • Biodiversity Conservation: Supporting local flower growers helps provide, pollen and nectar and habitats for pollinators like bees and butterflies. Much of the honey produced here at Loddington Farm will have been made with the help of our flowers!
  • Water Conservation: We grow our flowers without tilling soil — the ‘no-dig method’ and use mulch to keep water in the soil.  We irrigate our flowers when they need it using water from a spring fed reservoir on the farm.
  • Reduced Pesticide Use: We do not use pesticides to grow our flowers, instead we make our soil really healthy to give us healthy plants and beautiful flowers.
  • Freshness and Quality: Our flowers are picked and put in the shop with in a day or two. Unlike imported flowers which can spend several days in transit.
  • Supporting Local Farmers: Purchasing from local growers supports the local economy and helps sustain rural communities.

The fact that you have come to the farm shop would suggest that you like to shop locally — or simply that it’s convenient. But there are other reasons why it’s great to ‘shop local’.
