There’s a great article in The Times this Saturday (27th) by Simon Barnes, about the demise of butterflies. Pertinent article, as July 20 to August 11 is this year’s Big Butterfly Count. Butterflies are what are known as ‘indicator species’ as they tell us a lot about how the rest of our environment is getting on. So, what can we do? Other than wildlife-friendly gardening, you can help by taking part… It’s a fantastic way to spend 15 minutes, counting butterflies in your garden, a local park or in the countryside. Even better, if you own a smartphone, you can download a free app, to make spotting and counting butterflies even easier. How cool is that?! I am very excited!
